Artichoke

Through the corridors of sleep
Past shadows dark and deep
My mind dances and leaps in confusion
I don’t know what is real
I can’t touch what I feel
And I hide behind the shield of my illusion

So I’ll continue to continue to pretend
My life will never end
And flowers never bend with the rainfall

The mirror on my wall
Casts an image dark and small
But I’m not sure at all it’s my reflection
I’m blinded by the light
Of God, and truth, and right
And I wander in the night without direction

  1. Thanks for the remembering of a forgotten song. I even used to play it on the guitar. I didn’t catch the reference to 1 Cor. 13:12 back then. “For now we see through a glass darkly but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

  2. I didn’t realize Paul Simon had written that! In fact I hadn’t heard it before. It’s pretty. Growing up we always had a couple of artichoke plants in our back yard. I still have some dried ones in a vase, like the ones in your photos.
